Kongone 5th August
1862
Dear Sir
I have no
great objection against
giving an autograph
to a Lady but I feel
10to be such a silly
thing to write my
name for a great
heanimal like you
would'nt be better
15now to spend the
0002
money you waste
in postage stamps
plaguing people,
in supporting a
5poor shivering
half starved naked
boy or girl at a
ragged school. I
think one would
10remember having
saved the perishing
with greater pleasure
on a dying bed
0003
than that he had
secured all the autographs
from Ham's to old
Abe Lincoln's
